| Temporarily named Kumo during its development, Microsoft's new search engine Bing generated media interest at the time of its official launch, at the beginning of the month. Yet, after 3 weeks of activity, one can observe that on average, Bing's visit share remains quite stable, not to say below the one of its predecessor Live Search. The expected take-off still hasn't occurred. Below are the first figures regarding this new search engine, concentrating only on visits coming from France. |

| Bing succeeds to Live Search but doesn't convince |
The graph below presents the evolution of visit shares for Live Search and Bing, from May 11th to June 20th, 2009. Only visits coming from search engine traffic generated in France have been taken into account.
Available in Beta since June 1st 2009, Bing must prove itself not only by achieving better performances than Live Search, but also by challenging Yahoo! and the online search leader Google.
After three weeks of activity, Bing's visit share hasn't really risen. On June 1st 2009, day of its release, Bing accounted for 2.27% of search engine traffic coming from France, to reach a 2.75% share the next day. Since then, its share never stopped oscillating between 2.60% (June 7th) and 2.84% (June 13th). On June 20th, last day of our study, Bing's visit share was of 2.66%. This data makes it hard to account for a real craze for Microsoft's search engine.
Let's remember that Live Search's share in April 2009 was of 2.90%.

The whole buzz phenomenon around Microsoft's brand new search engine didn't really achieve the desired effect: contrary to its American / international version, the French version of the engine is only a Beta, with very few new features.
Using Google is one of the strongest habits of internet users: if Bing keeps its promises when coming out of Beta, the aforementioned habits can only change gradually during the upcoming months, not to say years.
Stay tuned as AT Internet Institute will provide a new Search Engine update next month.
