| 10 days after its release, Windows 7 has, on average, accounted for more than 2 visits out of 100 to websites in France… |
After the phenomenal launch of Windows Vista in January 2007, Windows 7 made a more low-key entry onto the market on October 22nd, 2009, to become more personal. “The Windows 7 was my idea” campaign and “Windows Cafe”, a demonstration area in which visitors could get hands-on experience of the different Windows 7 products and to appreciate their capabilities, highlight this more personalized touch.
The graph below shows an estimation of the average share of visits recorded on websites in France through the use of Windows 7 from October 15th to November 2nd, 2009.
On average 2.27% of visits to a website in France were made through Windows 7 on November 2nd, 2009, 10 days after its launch, a gain of 0.83 points compared to October 22nd:
- Available in RC version since May 5th, 2009, its visit share had already reached 1.38% of visits on October, 21st, the day before its launch for the general public. The following day, this figure increased to 1.44%.
- It is interesting to note the peaks of traffic during the weekend (with a record of 2.64% on Sunday November 1st, 2009). Many firms have not yet adopted this new OS, and at the moment it is used more for private use.

Methodology:
We are interested in the average share of visits of Windows 7 out of all operating system which have been recorded by a certain cross-section of websites.
In order to establish the cross-section of websites to be used as part of a study, a website is only used if the selection criteria, which have been established previously, are respected. These criteria are very strict and their aim is to remove any websites which have an anecdotal audience, or a chaotic audience, or whose collected data suspects a dysfunction in the measure.
For each country, only websites whose traffic has been mainly generated within the country itself are considered. In addition to this, only visits to these websites which have been generated within the country itself are considered.
